ROR (Revolutions on Request)

A product of ‘98, this Helsinki-based art collective hit the international art scene at the turn of the Millenium. Way back various artists contributed and had their share of it. It was hard to distinguish the boundaries of this melting pot of craftsmanship, technological imagination and psychedelic trash, as it was never the same, hosting dozens of guests –  and paving the way for the myth that the group was big as a circus, though already in 2002 it had been hardened to its present core: Klaus Nyqvist (b. 1976), Karoliina Taipale (b. 1973), Panu Puolakka (b. 1972) and Jiri Geller (b. 1970) made the group famous for magnitude by being the size of a rock band. The key word was curatorship and everything exhibited got the label ROR.
ROR has always installed Gesammtkunstwerks – where an instant aesthetic peak experience has been the only objective, motorized by a war machine of kinky interior design, monsterous motorbikes, fucked-up technology, psychedelic objects, and toys for adults with a heightened sense of consciousness. But slowly, from the beginning of 2005 the group has entered its third life cycle. Its members have given up curatorship. New work is exhibited only by Nyqvist, Taipale, Geller and Puolakka.
